Welcome!
I'm Benito Lucchesi, the founder of Purbeck Tutoring. I graduated the University of Reading with a 2:1 in Maths with Computer Science in the summer of 2025.
I've been teaching maths online for over 2 and a half years across many formats, but I've had a passion for Maths for as long as I remember, and if you've got some time, I'd love to tell you a bit of my story.

Why I like Maths
Growing up, I was always a socially awkward kid. Though I did well at school, I really struggled to make friends and just chalked it up to me, being different. Later on in life, I found out that I was autistic which at first came as a shock to me, however over the years it began to explain a lot of things, and improve how I communicate with students, neurodivergent or not. One of the biggest things it explained was how people never really made sense, but maths always did.
People were so complicated, they all sorts of thoughts, feelings and emotions that I never really understood. It felt as if they changed constantly, and I could never really make any friends. But then there was Maths. When I went into one of my maths lessons it was much simpler; there was a right and a wrong answer. I could look at a question and give it my best shot, if I got it right, then great! Onto the next one, but if I got it wrong there was a clear method and reasoning behind it, which I think is where most people struggle with maths.
Pretty much everything to do with Maths is an algorithm, or process if you prefer that. This is the most valuable thing that I can offer as a tutor, I'm able to take the time to examine the process that wasn't fully explained in the classroom and answer any questions that weren't able to be answered and is ultimately what motivates me to work as a tutor, slow but steady improvement that I see in my students.
With my passion for Maths out of the way, shall we get onto my academics from when I was at school.
GCSEs and A-Levels
I did quite well at my GCSEs and A-Levels.
For GCSE Maths I got an 8 (A*).
For A-Level Maths I got an A.
I also took A-Level Further Maths, in which I got a C.
Even though it has been a while since I took my GCSEs and A-Levels, I still remember them quite well and find them useful when advising students who are preparing to sit them.
However, these where merely a stepping stone to University, where I would formally begin my tutoring journey.

University and Tutoring
I arrived at the University of Reading in September 2022, and very soon I, as most university students do, quickly realised that I needed money to support myself, and after looking around I found my first tutoring job with a company called MyTutor.
MyTutor [December 2022 to July 2024]
My first job teaching Maths with MyTutor was arguably my most important job, it set a solid foundation for how I structure my lessons, even to this day. Though it wasn't perfect, the pay was low (£11/12 per hour) and I never really felt as if I was going anywhere with it, so, at the start of my 2nd year, I began to diversify.
SuperProf [August 2023 to Now]
By a country mile my most successful tutoring website. It was a slow start, but over the next 2 years I would gain a lot of students; I even reached the highest rank on SuperProf, an Ambassador. I have over 100 hours of lessons recorded on SuperProf, and many more from students who took lessons from me offsite. It is also where a lot of testimonials from my students come from.
It was so successful that I'm still on there to this day, however my tutoring wasn't entirely online either.
Study Plus Ltd. [October 2023 to December 2023]
At this time, I had yet to find success on SuperProf, so I expanded my tutoring to be in-person as well as online. I joined Study Plus, a tutoring company located in Reading; it was certainly a change of pace tutoring in-person as opposed to tutoring online and taught me quite a bit about tutoring. However, during this time I started to have success with SuperProf, so I left to pursue my own tutoring online.

[Yes I'm aware the flag is the wrong way round, geography isn't my strong suit]
